Officially the Best BBQ in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Ill., May 24, 2012 –- It’s truly rib ticklin’ news. A Jacksonville caterer – Twyford BBQ and Catering – is pleased to announce that it placed seventh in the rib category out of 121 teams that competed at the world barbecue championship at Memphis in May.

We are heading out to one of the best BBQ contest in the country. It is put on by Mike Mills and his crew at 17th Street Bar & Grill. It is one of the few dual-sanctioned contest which means it has both KCBS and MBN or MIM competitions. We are going to compete in both contest and we are looking forward to it. Steve Jahnke / The Southern Haley Evans and Sarah Mausey, both Rend Lake College culinary studetns, try to decide which bottle of barbecue sauce has the best label while judging for the National Barbecue Association’s Awards of Excellence Friday at the 17th Street Warehouse in Murphysboro. Students spent four hours judging over 200 sauces, dry rubs, hot sauces, and more. Winners were determined in a variety of categories and the awards will be presented at the NBBQA convention in Memphis, TN on February 4
Twyford BBQ Sassy Sauce placed second in the Spicy Tomato based sauce category at the recent National BBQ Association Convention held in Memphis,TN on February 4th, 2010 The Sassy sauce was on of 23 entries from throughout the United States. The judging was done by the Culinary Classes at John A. Logan College in Caterville, IL. We now have both our Sassy and Mild sauce available on line at our website.
Twyford BBQ & Catering competed in the Jack Daniels Invitational World Championship in Lynchburg, TN October 23-24. This was the team’s fifth consecutive appearance at “The Jack.” The team took honors with 2nd place ribs, 7th place with their signature Twyford BBQ sauce and 10th place with their caramel apple cobbler.
The Kansas City BBQ Society annual banquet was held on January 24th, in Nashville,TN. This is where they award the rewards for competition bbq team of the year and all the catergories. We were not able to attend but I recieved our awards in the mail. Someone said there were over 3000 teams that competed in KCBS contest this past year from all over the country.
We had a big win at the Madison, IN Ribberfest! Thanks for all who came to support us!
