2009 Jack Daniels Invitational World Championship
Twyford BBQ & Catering competed in the Jack Daniels Invitational World Championship in Lynchburg, TN October 23-24. This was the team’s fifth consecutive appearance at “The Jack.” The team took honors with 2nd place ribs, 7th place with their signature Twyford BBQ sauce and 10th place with their caramel apple cobbler.
Twyford BBQ & Catering was one of 80 teams competing for top honors. The field of competitors came from all over the United States as well as teams from Europe, Cuba and the Caribbean.
2009 American Royal Invitational
Twyford BBQ & Catering competed in the American Royal Invitational in Kansas City, Missouri October 2-4. The team finished 38th overall out of a field of 119 competitors. Their chicken finished in 9th place.
2009 American Royal Open
Twyford BBQ & Catering competed in the American Royal Open in Kansas City, Missouri October 2-4. The team finished 15th overall out of a field of 473 competitors. Their finishes by category included: Chicken-32nd; Ribs-5th; Beans-21st out of 177 entries; and Potatoes-53rd out of 158 entries.
2009 Quincy “Smoke on the River” Grand Champion
Randy & Marla Twyford of Twyford BBQ & Catering of Jacksonville, IL took away Grand Champion honors at the 2009 Quincy Exchange Club, “Smoke on the River” BBQ contest. Twyford’s beat out 39 other teams at this Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned contest. This is the second consecutive year the Twyford’s have taken home the Grand Champion trophy from this contest. Along with the Grand Championship, they won 1st place in the chicken and pork categories. The contest was held September 12, 2009 on the riverfront in Quincy, IL.
First Time Competitor Goes Hog Wild
Randy Twyford of Twyford’s BBQ & Catering from Jacksonville, Ill., earned champion honors of the Whole Hog category, which garnered $2,500 for the top the prize.
“We were always planning on coming up to the BarbeQlossal, but this is the first time we made it,” said Twyford, who has been competing on the barbeque circuit for six years and reconnected with many old friends who came to Des Moines for the 2009 World Pork Expo. “The BarbeQlossal is everything they say and more.” Twyford, who features pork in his catering business also sells barbecued ribs and pork at a local farmers market, attracted attention at the BarbeQlossal with his ceramic Sapphire cooker. “I could have offered a cooking class, because people asked me a lot of questions. I like participating in a contest where you have a lot of the public around.”
We also placed 2nd in the ribs and 6th in pork loin.
